Biography
Alexander Kushi-Willis was born in Buckinghamshire, England.
Growing up with his mother he lived in Sussex surrounded by the
Ashdown Forest and farmland. From age six to nineteen he
attended a Steiner/Waldorf school called Michael Hall. With this
creative based education he developed a very broad range of
skills and appreciation for many different cultures. Towards the
end of his education he focused on Sports, Physics, Art, and
Drama.
Also part of his life has been his parent's involvement in Natural
and Organic foods and healthy living as a Macrobiotic diet. His grandfather Michio Kushi, helped to introduce modern macrobiotics to the United States in the early 1950s. He has lectured about philosophy, spiritual development, health, food and diseases at conferences and seminars all over the world.
The Age of eighteen was when Alexander realized his passion for
acting was where he wanted to take his future career. At this
time he had much exposure to drama; performing in two plays a
year and traveling to London to see performances. The two
biggest influences was working on Romeo and Juliet, playing
Romeo, which he went on tour with to Paris and Switzerland, and
a performance he saw in London called A Minute Too Late by a
theatre company called Complicite.
After graduating Michael Hall School he auditioned for drama
schools in London and also one in New York City. It was here his
New York adventure began. After being accepted to The
American Academy of Dramatic Arts he moved to New York and
during is time at the acting conservatory he developed many
skills, training in Meisner and Stanislavsky techniques, film
acting, voice work and dialects, Viewpoints, yoga, stage combat
and much more. Since Graduating from AADA he has been part
of a Shakespeare Company based in Tribeca called BoAR, and
training in Lecoq Physical Theatre and Linklater voice work. He
has also just finished working on a stage adaptation of Edward
Scissorhands in which he played Edward.
More recently he has been training in Capoeira, Aikido and Bokkendo.
